Everybody Loves the Adorable Winnie-the-Pooh and His Friends

Deep within the 100-Acre Woods lives the friend to all, Winnie-the-Pooh. This Disney character if one of the most beloved icons of Disney. The birthday of Winnie-the-Pooh is sometimes in question. While some feel the birthday is 1921. But that is when the author of the books, A.A. Milne, made sure a bear was given to his little boy, Christopher Robin, when he turned one. Because of those facts Pooh was 91 years old in 2012.

Others argue that Pooh was not born until 1925, which was the year he started being called Winnie Pooh, not Edward Bear.” That would put Winnie at 87 years old. A.A. The argument was settled by Milne when he wrote about the birthday in a conversation Pooh and Christopher Robin have.

Christopher Robin asks his beloved Pooh bear to always remember him, even if he lives an entire century. Pooh happily agrees, but still wants to know how old that would make him by then. That is when Christopher Robin explains to Pooh he would then be 99 years old. Sadly, Christopher Robin only made it to 75, but pooh kept his promise to always remember him. The truth came out, and the debate is settled because according to Christopher Robin Pooh is 90 years old!

Winnie-the-Pooh’s Beginnings

Winnie was actually named after a couple of animals liked by the Milne family. Winnie was a live bear living in the London Zoo and Pooh was a swan who swam in a lake near their home. No one knows why Christopher Robin changed the name from the original Edward Bear.

The Pooh stories got started by Alan Milne as he told them to Christopher Robin. A publisher once asked Alan for a Christmas Eve story, Alan’s wife, Daphne, told him as well to write a new bedtime story about Winnie-Pooh. It became a hit and ended up as the very first chapter of the book, “Winnie-the-Pooh.”

There was another book called “When We Were Young” and it introduced all the neighbors of Pooh bear: Eeyore, the donkey, Piglet, the very timid, stuttering baby pig, Kanga, The sweet and lovable kangaroo mom and Roo, little boy. Tigger, Rabbit and Owl were later created by Milne because they were not a part of Christopher Robin’s nursery. Pooh and friends were loved all over the world and 150,000 copies of the book were sold in 1926 alone.

“Now We Are Six” was published in 1927 and sold 94,000 copies in England in the first two months of its release. Finally the last book, in 1928, added Tigger to the group of friends, and was called “The House at Pooh Corner”.

Why Everyone Will Always Love Winnie-the-Pooh

Winnie-the-Pooh is portrayed as a helpful friend who is willing to do anything he can to help his friends. In the stories he is always on his way to Eeyore’s or some other friend to help them out of a jam. Winnie never claimed to be the smartest bear around, but the way he cares always gets him through. The object lessons learned from Pooh will continue from now on, just as they have the past 90 years.
